We are committed to our students, our team and our community.

About Us

Our Philosophy

We believe that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Martial Arts can impact lives in a positive way. Committing to a goal like black belt can generate self-reliance, self-confidence, and a sense of purpose and direction.

We believe that a long-term, consistent course of study in this art can help anyone who undertakes such a course to expect more from themselves in a lasting, unconditional way.

So as instructors we pledge the following, to be upheld throughout the Academy:

Character: As an organization which values each student, and seeks to produce positive growth for all students, we must embody those same skills we wish to build in others. They are outlined below.

Honesty: We must be honest with our students, our staff and ourselves to continue to promote our goals.

Compassion: We seek to build a caring environment to help students of Jiu-Jitsu and the art of Jiu-Jitsu to grow. Compassion and patience in teaching, working, and service with our students ensures that we can build a solid, safe community in which to learn and grow.

Commitment: We believe that without a sense of commitment to the art and to the students, we cannot succeed. This commitment extends beyond the doors of the Academy, beyond the operating hours of the Academy.

Cooperation: We believe in cooperation over competition.  As such, we are building a safe environment where students can mature in both the technical and mental aspects of Jiu-Jitsu.

Hard Work: There is no substitute for hard work, both in class from and with our students, and in building a successful martial arts school. We will make an absolute effort to put forth 110% in order to operate this Academy in an efficient, timely, effective manner.

Our purpose is to offer a course of study in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to anyone genuinely interested in such a course. We will provide careful, caring, compassionate instruction in an effort to help students realize their own highest potential in both life and the martial arts.

We also recognize that in helping to craft an effective teaching system for Jiu-Jitsu, we are working towards improving the martial arts as a whole, and Jiu-Jitsu specifically.

The Academy

This is Park Slope’s largest martial arts school. The Academy’s Zebra® mat alone is larger than most schools entire facility. The school is furnished with all new equipment, a Pro-Shop, and both men’s and women’s changing rooms.

The Challenge

Whatever you are looking for; weight loss, self-defense, increased confidence, competition, or just a fun hobby, Park Slope Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is geared to train every student on their own path. The maxim of “Cooperation over Competition” allows everyone to progress effectively but also safely.
