BRAZILIAN JIU-JItsu

Little Grapplers Program (ages 5-10)

For our youngest students in our Academy, some who have never trained martial arts before, a lifelong journey into martial arts that will take them through university and beyond. The class incorporates Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and activities based on teamwork and skill building to improve focus, fitness, and coordination. The class helps bring down levels of aggressiveness, while encouraging the less outgoing students to be more assertive. We follow the same curriculum as our adult students which facilitates an understanding at an earlier age. Each class looks at self-defense strategies to build confidence and make sure that your child will not be the target of an adult or bully. Parents looking for an activity after school that isn’t just running around but true learning and skill development, look no further.

Junior Grapplers Program (ages 10-15)

Come see New York’s first, most popular, and highest rated class for Kids and Teens. This class provides a safe environment for the teens in our Academy, while they train as hard as the adults and receive the same benefits, we feel that a teen training with a full grown adult doesn’t provide room for adequate growth in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The class focuses on Jiu-Jitsu for self defense and the program is designed to focus on the mental as much as the physical. The self-confidence, and advanced goal setting is crucial to development in the years a young adult develops their own identity.  Communication between the instructors, students, and their families is key as we reach goals of fitness and self defense, as well as goals outside of the Park Slope Academy, like better grades and better relationships.

Adult Basic Fundamental Program

The Basic Fundamental program is designed to provide the students the foundation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, theory, and technique, both on the ground and standing. Each class incorporates techniques and flow drills designed to help guide body mechanics and muscle memory. Every class has a dynamic BJJ-specific warm up to build fitness, flexibility, and prevent injury. The class has been specifically designed to defend against punches, kicks, chokes, headlocks, bear hugs, and many other common forms of street aggression. You will learn not only techniques and strategies designed to make you feel safe and but also confident in any situation.

Adult Advanced Program

The premier program at Park Slope Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the Advanced Program is an invitation-only program reserved for those committed to training like a Black Belt. Warm ups are done in less time as fitness levels rise; there is more time for learning. The class builds off all concepts learned in basic, adds a more in-depth look at technique and introduces live training or Randori. We believe that the best way to test our understanding is the situational, positional, and live-guided training that the Advanced Class offers.

STRIKING CLASSES (AGES 15+)

The striking program is designed to introduce a student to the fundamentals of punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. Clinch work, defense, throws and trips will also be explored. Work will be done with partners, using focus mitt and thai pads. This program is a great compliment to grappling but can also be done as a stand alone program for those that are only interested in striking.
